Iemanjá's Footprints

It's customary in Brasil to head to the ocean for New Year's Eve to thank the Mother of Fishes, Iemanjá for all that she did to help keep your family coherent, cohesive and flourishing. All about the family, by extension, she is also about community and nation building. Iemanjá's dance moves like the tide coming in and out. With hands outstretched like a fan or foam on the waves, Iemanjá stitches together story or dissolves obstacles, drop by drop. She is one of energies that drives the Dancing Oracle since she also represents seven layers of knowledge, from that which we can easily see on the surface to Unknown mysteries which typically only "sensate" in our muscles, yearning for descriptive words.

Last night, I was walking the shore in Venice Beach, practically blinded by fog, steered toward the ocean only by sound. Shapes appeared and disappeared in the fog, but we kept moving forward, certain of our next steps only when they were required of us. Objects took on other tasks before their true nature became known, but this did not frustrate; it delighted. Our intention did not waiver, it became play. May 2012 bring you delicious discoveries already on your path as you answer your calling. Axé!
